Driving a car should be as comfortable as possible. In summer, in the heat, the car air conditioner will help you enjoy the trip.

This is a whole system that is responsible for creating and then maintaining the air temperature, humidity, cleanliness and flow force in the car. A unique invention allows you to create a cool corner inside the vehicle in the middle of the hot heat.

Nevertheless, not all motorists install air conditioners for themselves; some myths about such an important unit of a modern car scare off such a step.

Myths about car air conditioners

The air conditioner is refueled when it is being repaired; you can do this yourself. Maintenance of this unit must be carried out regardless of the degree of its serviceability. This is precisely what is clearly indicated in the vehicle operating instructions in the "Maintenance" section. You can really fill the air conditioner yourself, only this procedure is simple and easy only at first glance. There are many nuances here, so that, without understanding the real reasons for the poor performance of the air conditioner, you can be left without it at all at the right time. In order to effectively diagnose an air conditioner, it is necessary to use special equipment that will determine a leak or a malfunction. If you pour an extra 100 grams of freon into it or, on the contrary, underfill it, this will lead to an increase or decrease in the pressure inside the air conditioner. This is fraught with refrigerant leakage and compressor breakdown.

It makes no difference which freon to fill. So it doesn't matter where to buy and refuel it. The cost of freon is temptingly low relative to the cost of refueling the air conditioner. Nevertheless, such an operation must be performed on special equipment recommended by the manufacturer of the car air conditioner and in compliance with the technologies. One-off savings can ultimately lead to costly repairs. Each machine has a nameplate that indicates which type of refrigerant is used. It is in accordance with this nomenclature that it is necessary to fill the air conditioner using the specified freon. But the exact amount of the required refrigerant can only be found at a specialized station with the help of professional installations for refueling the air conditioner. These include, for example, the Breeze 134 Automatica or the AC-1500.

In the event of a breakdown of any part of the air conditioner, you can replace it alone, and not the entire unit. It should be borne in mind that the air conditioner is subject to wear and tear, like any equipment. At the same time, over time, he begins to fail. This happens with breakdowns of individual parts, and not of the entire apparatus at once. Experts say that it is really possible to change one failed part in the air conditioning system. But experience suggests that with a careful study of the unit, it turns out that in fact there are much more malfunctions. The main reason for the appearance of malfunctions in the operation of the air conditioner is the depressurization of the entire system. That is why troubleshooting begins with identifying and eliminating leaks in the air conditioning system, then repair or replacement of specific parts begins. Compressor problems fall into two categories. These can be faults in the electronics or mechanical damage. Most often, the breakdown consists in breaking the freewheel on the compressor of the device. This is due to the general overheating of the air conditioning system, which is associated with a clogged radiator with dirt and dust. In general, all car air conditioners have their weak points. First of all, condensers and tubes leave the queue. Some car models sin by installing low-quality high-pressure hoses at the factory, which often break.

The air conditioner does not corrode. In fact, this device operates under seasonal temperature fluctuations. That is why, after 5-7 years of operation, traces of corrosion appear on the condenser surface. Experts note that there have been cases when the copper contact half a centimeter thick, located on the high pressure sensor, simply decayed, turning into dust. Additional fan contacts can also rust, corrosion penetrates even into the motor housing. This chemical process is also enhanced by external factors such as water, metals and salt, which inevitably end up on the condenser. In this case, corrosion will not necessarily be visible to the naked eye. A rotten part from the outside may look pretty good. But if you clean the air conditioner with a brush in different places, then rust will appear outward. It is worth remembering that corrosion can become a dangerous enemy for the electricians of such devices. That is why after 5-7 years of use in the car, experts recommend completely changing the condenser.

Using an air conditioner leads to a significant increase in fuel consumption. A running A / C compressor really puts additional stress on the engine. This device takes 4-5 hp from the total power. Thus, using an air conditioner increases fuel consumption by an average of 10-15%. However, it should be said that in such a situation it is sometimes possible to even talk about saving gasoline. For example, in hot weather when driving on a highway at high speed, fully open windows increase fuel consumption by up to 20%. But if you close the windows and turn on the air conditioning in the cabin, then the consumption will increase by only 10%. This is how the saving of gasoline is achieved due to the operation of the climatic device.

Checking the condenser is just a gimmick invented at service stations. In fact, the condenser (popularly called the air conditioner radiator) is the most vulnerable part of the air conditioner. After all, it is here that huge portions of water and dust pass. In summer, fluff, and in winter, dirt clogs up the space between the condenser and the radiator. Because of this, the pressure in the air conditioning system begins to rise, the load on the air conditioning compressor increases. Because of this, the entire system starts to work worse. So it is no coincidence that all owners of air-conditioned cars are recommended to carry out preventive maintenance of the system every six months. Experts say that it is necessary to flush the air conditioning system after reaching every 100 thousand kilometers. You can also do this procedure in case of failure with the subsequent replacement of some air conditioning unit, for example, a compressor. This whole process is quite complicated, it involves a complete dismantling of the system, replacement of the compressor, the expansion valve and the dryer filter. It is important to know that it is necessary to flush the system with special fluids, solvents. This is of fundamental importance, since many manufacturers of car air conditioners even refuse warranty service if the system was flushed with technological violations before installation. Even the issue of preventive maintenance of air conditioning systems must be approached carefully - you need to choose services that specialize in servicing such equipment, and not just seasonally refuel.

The operation of the air conditioner is not affected in any way by the cabin air filters. Sometimes it happens that the air conditioner seems to be working properly, but there is no coolness in the cabin. Most often, this also means that the fine air filter inside the cabin was clogged. Service engineers say that it is better to change the filter before the start of the summer season. It is also better to do this after each segment of the run of 15 thousand kilometers, or just once a year. It is optimal if such a replacement is carried out a couple of times a year. Unfortunately, many begin to think about the need to replace the filter only when an unpleasant odor appears in the cabin. The stench is caused by dirt that has accumulated on the filter and in the evaporator. The fact is that the cabin filter is the only barrier that saves the lungs of people in the cabin from fuel combustion products, dirt, soot and burnt. Thanks to him, ordinary dust from the brake pads of a car, as well as dried road reagents, which are so abundant in the air of big cities, do not penetrate inside. Due to the humid and warm environment on the evaporator, pathogenic bacteria quickly begin to develop here. If such a filter is heavily contaminated or is absent altogether, then people will begin to inhale air saturated with microorganisms and spores of fungi and mold. Although some of them are deposited on the dashboard, the bulk still gets from the air into the lungs of people. Experts recommend regularly changing the filters in the cabin, and it is better to carry out this important procedure in special car services. The fact is that such a procedure will require certain knowledge and skills. Indeed, in some cars it is necessary to dismantle the brake pedal, in others - the wiper blades. Somewhere special care is needed so as not to damage the gasket.

Disinfecting an air conditioner is absolutely unnecessary. When the temperature on the evaporator surface drops, moisture condensation occurs. It attracts all kinds of pollutants - pollen, leaves, dust and even small insects. The existence of such a microclimate is an ideal condition for the reproduction of microorganisms. Therefore, it is recommended to wash the evaporator at least once a month during the most active use of the air conditioner. There are three main ways to disinfect a vaporizer. First of all, it is worth mentioning the smoke bomb. It will help kill all mold and bacteria, as well as remove foreign bodies. With this tool, you can remove all odors from the car. Another disinfection method is using an antiseptic aerosol can. Inside there is a highly concentrated composition with biologically active substances. This aerosol allows you to clean the air conditioner from grease and other contaminants, restores the cooling capacity of the air conditioner, disinfects the air circulation system and removes musty odors. Also worth mentioning is the mechanical cleaning of the air conditioner. It is recommended for use in the most advanced cases. Then the air conditioning system is dismantled and then each part is manually cleaned. This type of device disinfection is the most expensive. It is best to clean the air conditioner in a car service; professionals will do it faster and better.

The air conditioner is needed for use only in summer; during the rest of the year it is simply not needed. The air conditioner has more than just a cooling function in hot weather. For example, when it rains, this device will be useful as a dehumidifier for fogged up car windows. And at other times of the year, the air conditioner must be turned on at least once a month. Prevention of the entire system is necessary even in winter. Indeed, oil circulates through the unit along with freon, preventing the oil seals from drying out. In this situation, it is appropriate to compare with a balloon, after a few days it will begin to deflate, since air will imperceptibly begin to leave through microcracks in the rubber. Prolonged inactivity of the air conditioner will cause oil to evaporate from the graphite packing, leading to a leak at this point. That is why in winter, having driven the car to the car wash, it is better to turn on the air conditioner for a while. This will disperse the refrigerant and oil throughout the entire air conditioning system, extending the life of the unit.

Air conditioner maintenance is expensive and inherently unnecessary pleasure. Any car owner knows that the radiator needs to be cleaned periodically. But some are trying to simplify this procedure by simply directing a strong stream of water at it. In the end, however, this approach can be deplorable. Water can bend the honeycomb of the radiator, but dirt will remain inside. Over time, it turns out that there is nothing left but to completely replace the radiator. Proper cleaning of this area involves first disassembling the front of the machine. The story is similar with the evaporator. Only an experienced specialist has an understanding of the cleaning and dismantling technology. In general, maintenance of an air conditioner in a car service includes several types of work. This includes diagnostics of the operation of the condenser with the evaporator, checking the cleanliness of the passenger compartment and the integrity of the electrical connectors. Service specialists check the presence of extraneous noise and odors during the operation of the air conditioner, and also assess the tightness of the entire system. Needless to say, such a complex of works should be carried out in a competent and proven car service, equipped with the best equipment. The provision of the air conditioner for service to specialists guarantees its further high-quality operation. Remembering that a miser pays twice, it is better not to try to save money on such an important part of a comfortable ride.
